Target Information
The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an essential cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. Ubiquitination involves at least three classes of enzymes:
- Ubiquitin-activating enzymes (E1s)
- Ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes (E2s)
- Ubiquitin-protein ligases (E3s)
UBE2G1 belongs to the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. The encoded protein shares 98–100% sequence identity with zebrafish, frog, rat, and mouse homologs, indicating high evolutionary conservation among eukaryotes.
