Target Information

This gene is a member of the protocadherin beta gene cluster, one of three related clusters on chromosome 5. These clusters have a genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters. The beta cluster includes 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding six extracellular cadherin domains and a unique cytoplasmic tail. The extracellular domains mediate homophilic interactions, contributing to specific cell-cell connections in neural tissue. Unlike the alpha and gamma clusters, beta cluster transcripts consist of a single large exon. These neural cadherin-like proteins are integral membrane proteins involved in neural connectivity, though their precise functions remain unclear. This family member uses multiple polyadenylation sites.
