Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte)와 일부 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초 신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포는 GFAP를 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 매우 유용합니다. 여러 유형의 뇌종양에서도 GFAP가 많이 발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease라는 희귀한 신경계 질환을 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
