Target Information
DNA replication, recombination, and repair processes essential for genome stability require exonucleases. During DNA replication, these enzymes process Okazaki fragments, while in DNA repair they excise damaged DNA and correct mismatches. DNA polymerases δ and ε are key enzymes in these pathways. DNA pol δ consists of subunits p125 and p50, with p125 interacting with PCNA. DNA pol ε, encoded by the POL2 gene, is a multi-subunit enzyme. The exact roles of DNA pol δ and ε in leading and lagging strand synthesis remain under investigation.
