Aquaporins (major intrinsic protein, MIP) are a family of water-selective membrane channels.
Aquaporin 7 shows high sequence similarity with AQP3 and AQP9, suggesting a subfamily relationship.
AQP7 and AQP3 share the same chromosomal location (9p13), indicating a potential aquaporin cluster.
Aquaporin 7 facilitates the transport of water, glycerol, and urea, and may play an important role in sperm function.
