Target Information
Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, occurs during normal cellular differentiation and development of multicellular organisms. It is induced by cytokines such as TNF and Fas ligand through their receptors TNFR1 and Fas. Death signals are mediated by death domain-containing adapter molecules and members of the ICE/CED-3 protease family. Daxx (death-associated protein 6) binds specifically to the Fas death domain, enhancing Fas-induced apoptosis and activating the JNK pathway. Daxx is widely expressed in fetal and adult tissues, indicating its key role in Fas signaling pathways.
