Target Information
BCLAF1 is an intracellular, death-promoting transcriptional repressor of survival genes that interacts with several members of the BCL2 family of proteins. It shows homology to the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) and MYB DNA binding domains.
In apoptotic cells, BCLAF1 localizes to dot-like structures throughout the nucleus and redistributes near the nuclear envelope. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be suppressed by co-expression of BCL2 proteins.
Also known as BTF, it triggers a proapoptotic signal potentially helpful in overcoming resistance to STI571. BCLAF1 is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscles.
