Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between pH 4.9 and 7.8. Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) shows tissue-specific expression patterns related to epithelial type and differentiation state.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used for distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, as well as in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
