Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are complex ion channels with diverse physiological roles, including the regulation of neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.
The KCNV1 gene encodes a member of the potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily V, predominantly expressed in the brain, where it may modulate outward rectifier potassium channel activity.
