Target Information
This gene encodes a 25-kDa microfibril-associated glycoprotein rich in serine and threonine residues. It lacks a hydrophobic carboxyl terminus and proline-, glutamine-, and tyrosine-rich regions, which are typical of the related 31-kDa microfibril-associated glycoprotein (MFAP2). The similarity between MFAP5 and MFAP2 is confined to a 60 amino acid region containing seven cysteine residues aligned precisely. These structural differences suggest distinct functions from MFAP2.
