Target Information

Calnexin (also known as IP90, p88, p90) is an approximately 90 kDa integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER).
It functions as a molecular chaperone, assisting in proper folding and assembly of polypeptides into multisubunit proteins.
Calnexin associates with MHC class I heavy chains, partial T-cell receptor complexes, and B-cell membrane immunoglobulins, but not with completed receptor complexes.
It retains incompletely or improperly folded proteins within the ER.
While soluble ER proteins often contain the KDEL sequence for retention, integral membrane proteins like Calnexin rely on positively charged cytosolic residues for ER localization.
Calnexin structure includes a large ER luminal domain (461 amino acids), a transmembrane segment (22 amino acids), and a cytoplasmic tail (89 amino acids).
