S100 단백질은 다양한 세포의 세포질 및/또는 핵에 위치하며, 세포 주기 진행 및 분화 등 여러 세포 과정의 조절에 관여합니다.
S100 유전자는 최소 13개의 멤버로 구성되어 있으며, 염색체 1q21에 클러스터로 존재합니다.
이 단백질은 casein kinase 억제에 관여할 수 있으며, 발현 변화는 낭포성 섬유증과 관련이 있습니다.
