Target Information
The alpha subunit of the adaptor protein complex 2 (AP-2) is a component involved in clathrin-dependent endocytosis. AP-2 functions as a cargo receptor, selectively sorting membrane proteins involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis. It binds polyphosphoinositide-containing lipids to position AP-2 on the membrane and acts as a scaffold for endocytic accessory proteins. The AP-2 alpha and sigma subunits contribute to the recognition of endocytosis signal motifs such as Y-X-X-[FILMV] and [ED]-X-X-X-L-[LI].
