Target Information
Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain. CD11b is involved in adhesive interactions of monocytes, macrophages, and granulocytes, and mediates uptake of complement-coated particles. It is identical to CR3, the receptor for the iC3b fragment of complement component 3. CD11b also binds fibrinogen, factor X, and ICAM1, recognizing P1 and P2 peptides of the fibrinogen gamma chain.
The Mac1 (CD11b) antigen is expressed on macrophages, granulocytes, NK cells, and monocytes, and serves as a microglial marker in nervous tissue. Expression levels: ~8% spleen cells, 44% bone marrow cells, <1% thymocytes.
CD11c encodes the integrin alpha X chain, which pairs with beta 2 (ITGB2) to form the leukocyte-specific integrin CR4 (iC3b receptor 4). The αXβ2 complex overlaps with αMβ2 in neutrophil and monocyte adhesion to activated endothelium and in phagocytosis of complement-coated particles. Mutations in CD11b/c are associated with systemic lupus erythematosus 6.
