Target Information
CD15 (Lewis X, Le(x); stage specific embryonic antigen-1, SSEA-1) is a trisaccharide determinant (3-fucosyl-N-acetyllactosamine) expressed on several glycolipids, glycoproteins, and proteoglycans of various cell types such as granulocytes, mast cells, monocytes, macrophages, cells of gastric mucosa, nervous system, and various tumor cells.
Variants include sialyl-Lewis X and sulphated Lewis X. Cells with high Le(x) expression exhibit strong calcium-dependent self-aggregation, involved in embryo compaction and teratocarcinoma cell autoaggregation.
Sialyl-Le(x) and sialyl-Le(a) are selectin ligands. CD15 expression is used to confirm diagnosis of Hodgkin’s disease.
