Target Information

The ABCB1 gene encodes a membrane-associated protein belonging to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily.
These proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intracellular membranes and are divided into seven subfamilies: ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White.
ABCB1 is part of the MDR/TAP subfamily, associated with multidrug resistance.
It functions as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump with broad substrate specificity, reducing drug accumulation in resistant cells and contributing to anticancer drug resistance.
ABCB1 also acts as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
