Target Information
The 14-3-3 theta gene product belongs to the 14-3-3 family of proteins, which mediate signal transduction by binding to phosphoserine-containing proteins. This highly conserved family is present in both plants and mammals. The human protein shares 99% sequence identity with mouse and rat orthologs. It is upregulated in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The gene contains a 6 bp tandem repeat sequence in its 5′ UTR that is polymorphic, though not correlated with disease.
