Target Information
Forkhead-box J1 (FOXJ1) is a 421-amino acid transcription factor that suppresses T cell activity and spontaneous autoimmunity by repressing NF-κB activity. It also inhibits the humoral immune response in B cells.
FOXJ1 deficiency in B cells leads to spontaneous and enhanced germinal center formation and is implicated in the development of pathogenic autoantibodies and exaggerated responses to immunizations.
Abnormal FOXJ1 expression may be associated with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
FOXJ1 is required for cilia formation and left-right axis determination by increasing calpastatin expression, which is necessary for basal bodies to anchor to the apical cytoskeleton.
FOXJ1 expression may serve as an early marker of epithelial cell differentiation, recovery, and function.
