Background
This gene was identified as a gene whose expression is rapidly induced by tumor necrosis factor (TNF). The encoded protein is a zinc finger and ubiquitin-editing enzyme, known to inhibit NF-κB activation and TNF-mediated apoptosis. It possesses both ubiquitin ligase and deubiquitinase activities, participating in cytokine-mediated immune and inflammatory responses. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported. (RefSeq, Jul 2012)
