Background
This gene encodes a member of an adapter protein family that binds to several tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins. It contains SH2 and SH3 domains and participates in multiple signaling pathways by recruiting cytoplasmic proteins near tyrosine kinases through SH2-phosphotyrosine interactions. The N-terminal SH2 domain acts as a positive regulator of transformation, while the C-terminal SH3 domain acts as a negative regulator. Two alternative transcripts encoding different isoforms with distinct biological activity have been described. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
