Target Information

Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa.
In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble, cross-linked protein forming high molecular mass polymers.
It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling and is also present as a soluble plasma protein.
Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming domains for interaction with other matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin) and cell receptors (e.g., integrins).
It plays key roles in cell adhesion, migration, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis.
Fibronectin expression is elevated in non-small cell lung carcinoma, where it enhances tumorigenicity and confers resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents.
The gene encoding fibronectin undergoes alternative splicing, potentially producing up to 20 transcript variants.
