Target Information
This gene encodes one of three members of the Tribbles family. The Tribbles members share a Trb domain, homologous to protein serine-threonine kinases but lacking the active site lysine and likely catalytic function. Tribbles proteins modulate signal transduction pathways in various physiological and pathological processes. This member induces apoptosis mainly in hematopoietic cells, is up-regulated by inflammatory stimuli in myeloid (THP-1) cells, and acts as an oncogene by inactivating transcription factor C/EBPalpha, leading to acute myelogenous leukemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified for this gene.
