Target Information
The Lipase family belongs to one of the most robust genetic superfamilies found in living organisms, including esterases and thioesterases. Lipase gene products are related by tertiary structure rather than primary amino acid sequence.
Hepatic Lipase (HL or LIPC) is essential for balancing the composition and transport of lipoproteins in human plasma. Deficiency in Hepatic Lipase can lead to abnormal lipoprotein levels and is associated with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Hepatic Lipase is regulated by thyroid hormones and functions both as a triglyceride hydrolase and as a ligand/bridging factor for receptor-mediated lipoprotein uptake. It localizes to endothelial surfaces of extrahepatic tissues.
