Target Information
The ZBTB family of proteins consists of diverse zinc finger proteins containing a BTB (BR-C, ttk, and bab) domain. ZBTB5 is a POZ domain Kruppel-like zinc finger (POK) protein that binds DNA and represses transcription of the cell cycle arrest gene p21. It interacts with co-repressor histone deacetylase complexes (BCoR, NCoR, SMRT) via its POZ domain, leading to histone deacetylation at promoter regions. ZBTB5 promotes cell proliferation and cycle progression, suggesting its potential role as a proto-oncogene.
