Target Information
Fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5), also known as the precursor of irisin, is encoded by the FNDC5 gene. This secreted protein is released from muscle cells during exercise and may play a role in brown fat development. Translation initiates at a non-AUG start codon conserved across species, and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
