Target Information
Fis1 is a 17 kDa integral membrane protein and a component of the mitochondrial fission machinery. It includes a central leucine-zipper domain, coiled-coil region, tetratricopeptide repeat domain, and a C-terminal transmembrane domain. Fis1 acts as a pro-apoptotic factor, regulating mitochondrial fission and interacting with DLP1 and Mdv1p to facilitate Dnm1p recruitment to the fission complex. It also plays a role in peroxisome growth and division. Loss of Fis1 inhibits apoptosis and leads to mitochondrial elongation.
