Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the CD1 family of transmembrane glycoproteins, structurally related to MHC proteins, forming heterodimers with beta-2-microglobulin. CD1 proteins present lipid and glycolipid antigens from self or microbial sources to T cells. The human genome contains five CD1 family genes on chromosome 1. Members differ in localization and lipid ligand specificity. The encoded protein localizes to late endosomes and lysosomes via a tyrosine-based motif and requires vesicular acidification for lipid antigen binding.
