Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and can be released into serum as both secreted and cleaved forms. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharides through lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), aiding in immune recognition and neutralization processes. Soluble CD14 (sCD14) can discriminate structural differences between lipopolysaccharides and plays roles in allergic, inflammatory, and infectious responses. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
