Target Information
Alpha Tubulin forms a heterodimer with beta tubulin, each approximately 55 kDa in molecular weight.
This heterodimer is the fundamental building block of microtubules, cylindrical filamentous structures essential to eukaryotic cells.
Microtubules provide structural support, enable intracellular transport, and play a key role in mitosis.
Multiple alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species.
The alpha tubulin gene is homologous to the mouse and rat Tuba1 gene and is predominantly expressed in differentiated neurologic cells.
