Target Information

Transcriptional factor CTCF is a ubiquitously expressed 11-zinc finger domain-containing, DNA-binding nuclear phosphoprotein involved in multiple aspects of gene regulation including transcriptional repression and activation, gene silencing, chromatin insulation, and regulation of imprinted sites.
CTCF binds to the CCCTC DNA motif and interacts with HAT and HDAC complexes to modulate transcriptional activity. It participates in the transactivation of the APPB gene, silencing of the c-myc gene, insulation of human beta-globin and DMI myotonic dystrophy loci, and imprinting control of IGF2 and H19 regions.
Mutations in this gene have been associated with various cancers, including breast, prostate, and Wilms’ tumors.
