Target Information
Cytokeratin 19 (KRT19) belongs to a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Cytokeratins range in molecular weight from 40–68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9–7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) is expressed in specific epithelial tissues, reflecting both tissue type and differentiation state. Cytokeratin expression patterns are widely used to distinguish epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis via immunohistochemistry, and are valuable in cytopathology and flow cytometry. Notably, Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes, aiding identification of liver metastases.
