Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with actin from tissue extracts of uterus, ileum, aorta, diaphragm, heart, and smooth muscle cells.
It recognizes alpha-actin from skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle, and reacts with gamma actin from smooth muscle.
It also reacts with tumors derived from smooth muscle (leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas) and skeletal muscle tumors (rhabdomyomas and rhabdomyosarcomas).
Note: Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling in 1 mM EDTA (pH 8.0), followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Actin belongs to a highly conserved family of proteins involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Alpha, beta, and gamma actin isoforms have been identified:
- Alpha actins: Major constituents of the contractile apparatus.
- Beta and gamma actins: Involved in regulation of cell motility.
This actin is an alpha-actin found in skeletal muscle.
Mutations in this gene are associated with:
- Nemaline myopathy type 3
- Congenital myopathy with excess thin myofilaments
- Congenital myopathy with cores
- Congenital myopathy with fiber-type disproportion
These conditions lead to muscle fiber defects.
