p53AIP1 (p53-regulated apoptosis-inducing protein 1)는 인간 게놈 DNA로부터 p53 결합 서열을 직접 클로닝하여 확인된 새로운 단백질로, wild-type p53에 의해 미토콘드리아에서 발현이 유도되어 세포사멸(apoptosis)을 유발합니다.
심각한 DNA 손상은 p53의 Ser-46 위치에서의 인산화를 유도하며, 이는 p53AIP1의 발현과 세포사멸을 촉진합니다.
p53AIP1은 p53 의존적 세포사멸 경로의 중요한 매개체로 작용하며, Ser46의 인산화는 이 유전자의 전사 활성화를 조절합니다.
