Target Information
Component of the Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1 complex, which maintains transcriptional repression of many genes, including Hox genes, during development. The PRC1 complex acts through chromatin remodeling and histone modification, mediating monoubiquitination of histone H2A (Lys-119), resulting in heritable changes in gene expressibility. Within the PRC1 complex, BMI-1 is required to stimulate the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase activity of RNF2/RING2.
