Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein.
It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes.
CD28 acts as a critical T cell co-stimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, providing an essential second activation signal.
It prevents T cells from entering an anergic or apoptotic state.
In murine lymphoid organs and blood, all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28.
Expression is highest on immature thymocytes (CD3-, CD8+, CD4+8+, and CD4-8- cells).
Diseases associated with CD28 dysfunction include mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
