Target Information
MaxiK channels are large conductance, voltage- and calcium-sensitive potassium channels that are fundamental to the control of smooth muscle tone and neuronal excitability. These channels are composed of a pore-forming alpha subunit and a modulatory beta subunit. The protein encoded by the KCNMB4 gene acts as an auxiliary beta subunit, slowing activation kinetics, increasing calcium sensitivity, and shifting the voltage range of current activation to more negative potentials compared to the beta 1 subunit.
