Target Information
SIRT5 is a human member of a family of proteins called Sirtuins (Sir2-like proteins), which are present in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. All Sir2-like proteins have a conserved sirtuin core domain found across species from bacteria to humans. These proteins metabolize NAD and may function as mono-ADP-ribosyltransferases. Although the enzymatic role of sirtuins is not fully understood, studies suggest a coupled activation mechanism involving NAD metabolism and histone deacetylation mediated by Sir2.
