Target Information

The Aurora kinases associate with microtubules during chromosome movement and segregation. AURKB (Aurora B) localizes to microtubules near kinetochores, specifically to the specialized microtubules called K-fibers.
This complex functions in chromosome alignment and separation, histone modification, and cytokinesis. The Chromosomal Passenger Complex (CPC) includes three non-enzymatic subunits—INCENP, survivin, and borealin—which regulate the activity, localization, stability, and substrate specificity of Aurora B.
Two CPC forms exist during mitosis: one containing all four members and another consisting of INCENP and Aurora B. The full CPC functions during chromosome alignment and cytokinesis, while the INCENP–AurB complex may modify histone H3.
AurB is overexpressed in several tumor types, including primary breast and colon cancers, and its expression appears correlated with Aurora-A kinase, suggesting a feedback mechanism between the two proteins.
