Target Information
Retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) is a pattern recognition receptor (PRR) involved in the detection of viral double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). Along with MDA5, RIG-I activates the innate immune response through IPS-1, leading to activation of NF-kappaB and IRF-3, and inducing apoptosis, cytokine signaling, and inflammation.
RIG-I is essential in antiviral defense against influenza A/B, human respiratory syncytial virus, paramyxoviruses, Japanese encephalitis virus, and West Nile virus. Additionally, RIG-I is regulated by microRNA-146a and may participate in cytosolic DNA detection via RNA polymerase III activity.
