Target Information
SLC27A1 is a protein coding gene that mediates the ATP-dependent import of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) into the cell by facilitating their translocation at the plasma membrane. It also possesses acyl-CoA ligase activity for long-chain and very-long-chain fatty acids. SLC27A1 may act directly as a transporter or as part of a multimeric protein complex involved in fatty acid uptake and accumulation. It plays a key role in regulating LCFA substrate availability in tissues with high beta-oxidation or triglyceride synthesis activity and may also be involved in cholesterol metabolism regulation.
