Target Information

Transthyretin (TTR), also known as prealbumin, is a plasma protein that functions as a transporter of thyroxine and retinal-binding protein. It is primarily synthesized in the liver and secreted into the plasma. TTR constitutes about 25% of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein, suggesting selective transport across the blood-CSF barrier or synthesis within the central nervous system. Transthyretin is associated with neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and microangiopathic lesions in senile cerebral amyloid. Over 40 different mutations in the TTR gene have been linked to amyloid deposition.
