Target Information
ZNF536 is a zinc-finger protein primarily expressed in the developing nervous system, including the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and hypothalamus. It contains ten zinc fingers and interacts with CtBP1, a corepressor for gene transcription. ZNF536 is closely related to the transcriptional repressor ZNF219 and plays a role in inhibiting neuronal cell differentiation by suppressing neuronal marker gene expression (e.g., Pax6, MAP2, beta-tubulin III) during retinoic acid-induced differentiation. Overexpression of RA receptor α can rescue this inhibitory effect, suggesting ZNF536 modulates RA response element-mediated transcriptional activity.
