Type I collagen은 대부분의 결합 조직에서 발견되는 섬유성 콜라겐으로, 연골 내에서 발견되는 콜라겐의 유일한 구성요소입니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 골형성부전증, 엘러스-단로스 증후군, 특발성 골다공증과 관련이 있습니다.
염색체 17번과 22번 사이의 상호 전좌는 피부 종양인 dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans와 연관되어 있으며, 이는 성장 인자의 비정상적 발현으로 인한 결과입니다.
이 유전자는 대체 polyadenylation 신호의 사용으로 인해 두 가지 전사체를 생성합니다.
