Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV (2019 Novel Coronavirus), causes illnesses ranging from mild cold symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The CoV Spike (S) protein is critical for viral attachment, fusion, and entry, and serves as a target for antibody development, entry inhibitors, and vaccines.
The Spike protein receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) binds strongly to human and bat ACE2 receptors, showing higher affinity to ACE2 than SARS-CoV RBD.
S1 subunit contains the RBD that specifically interacts with ACE2 on target cells.
