Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For staining of formalin-fixed tissues: heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors.
CEA belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, containing one N domain and six constant-like domains (A1–A3, B1–B3).
Antibodies to CEA are useful for:
- Identifying the origin of metastatic adenocarcinomas
- Distinguishing pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+)
CEA functions as a cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia, mediating homophilic and heterophilic interactions.
It is involved in processes such as tissue organization, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported.
