Background
Histones are key regulators in transcription, cell cycle progression, and development. Acetylation and deacetylation of histones alter chromatin structure and affect transcription factor accessibility to DNA. HDAC8 belongs to the class I histone deacetylase family, catalyzing the removal of acetyl groups from lysine residues in histone tails, thereby repressing transcription in multiprotein complexes with co-repressors.
