세포 내 위치 (Cellular Localization)
Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Mitochondrion outer membrane.
Shuttles between the cytoplasm and nucleus; heterodimerization with JUN is essential for nuclear localization.
Cytoplasmic localization observed under stress or disease conditions.
Localizes at mitochondrial outer membrane in response to genotoxic stress.
Phosphorylation at Thr-52 required for nuclear localization and negatively regulates mitochondrial localization.
Co-localizes with MRN complex in IR-induced foci (IRIF).
배경 (Background)
Activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) is a transcription factor belonging to the leucine zipper family of DNA-binding proteins.
It acts as a moonlighting protein with distinct mechanistic functions.
ATF2 binds to the cAMP-responsive element (CRE) and forms homodimers or heterodimers with c-Jun to stimulate CRE-dependent transcription.
It also functions as a histone acetyltransferase (HAT), acetylating histones H2B and H4, thereby influencing chromatin structure and transcriptional activation.
Additionally, ATF2 is involved in the cellular DNA damage response, independent of its transcriptional role.
Several alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified (RefSeq, Jan 2014).
