Background
Tumor protein p73 (TP73) is a member of the p53 family of transcription factors involved in cellular responses to stress and development. It is located on chromosome 1p36, a region frequently deleted in neuroblastoma and other tumors, suggesting the presence of multiple tumor suppressor genes. The gene is monoallelically expressed, likely from the maternal allele, making it a candidate gene for neuroblastoma. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing and promoter usage, though not all have been fully characterized.
