Background
c-Fos is a proto-oncogene that is the human homolog of the retroviral oncogene v-fos. The c-Fos protein consists of 380 amino acids and contains a basic leucine zipper region responsible for dimerization and DNA binding, as well as a C-terminal transactivation domain.
