Background
Calnexin is a chaperone protein that assists in protein folding and quality control, ensuring only correctly folded and assembled proteins proceed along the secretory pathway. It is an integral membrane protein of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), typically appearing as 75–90 kDa bands in Western blotting depending on the antibody source. Calnexin contains a large (50 kDa) N-terminal calcium-binding lumenal domain, a single transmembrane helix, and a short (approximately 90 residues) acidic cytoplasmic tail.
